The abandoned Ashram is a spiritual inspiration, located on the eastern bank of the Ganges river in Rishikesh, which is known as the yoga capital of the world. During the 60s and 70s it was the training centre for Maharishi’s students, founder of the Transcendental Meditation technique. It gained international attention when the Beatles studied meditation in the 70s. Before that and also locally it is known as Chaurasi kutia ashram.

The ashram was abandoned in the 90s and reverted to the government in 2003, after which it became a popular visiting place for fans of the Beatles. Although taken back by the jungle, the site was officially opened to the public in December 2015.

The ashram has an area of 15 acres, enough space to wander around and get a glimpse of how life might have looked like. With the graffiti artwork it‘s perfect location for photographers and videographers. Especially the stone meditation caves are very breathtaking when you spend some time in them. With two floors they were built in an egg shape with stones taken from the Ganga river.

Since words are limited, I am simply pleased to share my experience with this video.

Enjoy walking through the abandoned ashram ❤️
